About Sebastian

Described as a "Young talent" (Eafit Symphony Orchestra - National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia) Colombian conductor Sebastián Almánzar has distinguished himself as a talented young  Orchestral  and Choir Conductor.

Sebastian has worked with renowned orchestras in Colombia, such as the National symphony of Colombia, Eafit Symphony Orchestra, Iberacademy Orchestra, the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra from the "Estudio Polifónico de Medellín". 
In Europe he has led orchestras such as the Radio Sinfonie Orchester Wien,  the Webern Sinfonietta (Austria), l'Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège (Belgium), Aarhus symphony orchestra (Denmark), and his most recent work during the 2023/2024 season as assistant conductor of Marie Jacquot with the Vienna symphony Orchestra (Austria), and the Basque National Orchestra (Spain).

In january 2020 he was awarded the 2nd Prize at the European Union conducting competition (Bulgaria). Due to this prize, he would get his European Debut in September 2020 as a guest conductor of the Pazardjhik symphony orchestra (Bulgaria).

In February 2020, he had the wonderful opportunity to conduct the Vienna Symphony orchestra as a finalist in the Assistant-conductor audition, under Maestro Andrés Orozco-Estrada.

In 2023 he finished his Master in Conducting at the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts, in Vienna under Professor Simeon Pironkoff (conducting), Alois Glaßner (Choir), Vladimir Kiradjiev (Opera) and Thomas Kreuzberger (Piano).

​

He has participated in master classes led by Andres Orozco-Estrada, Marin Alsop, Roberto Gonzales-Monjas, Francisco Rettig, Olivier Grangean, Philippe Augin.

​

Sebastian is a fervent proponent for the inclusion and culture development trough educative programs. 

For over a year, before coming to Europe, he was as a music teacher at the Fundación vivan los niños (Let the children live).  A Christian charity of last resort for children from the streets  and  shanty-towns of Colombia  

​

Sebastian began his conducting studies in 2012 till 2017 at the the Eafit University (Medellin - Colombia), studying with professors Cecilia Espinosa and Alejandro Posada (Colombia).
